In May, Moreau signed a three-year, $12 million deal with the Saints despite still battling the disease.

Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which is part of the body’s germ-fighting immune system.

Post-diagnosis, Moreau wrote on social media: “Through a somewhat miraculous process, this Free Agency period has changed my life.

“During a routine physical examination by the Saints medical team in New Orleans, I learned that I have Hodgkin lymphoma and that I will be retiring from football.

‘Right now to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I am grateful for the support and grateful for people who have stood next to me.

There is not a single step I have taken without hundreds of people lighting the path for me, and I will continue to seek their advice.

“That being said, I’m going to give this thing a kick and get back to doing what I love!” AMDG!’

Now Moreau can sharpen his focus on playing in the NFL for his hometown team.
