New Farm Brisbane: Inner-city suburb rocked by explosion as house fire badly burns two people with three others treated for smoke inhalation

At least 10 firefighters rushed to the scene of a house fire that caused an explosion in an inner-city suburb of Brisbane.

Residents reported hearing an explosion on the corner of Bowen Terrace and Oxley Lane, New Farm, at around 9.15am on Saturday morning.

Upon arrival, emergency services found two badly burned people who were transported to hospital in serious condition.

Another three people had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Motorists are advised to drive carefully and according to the conditions. Residents are advised to close windows and doors and keep respiratory medications nearby if necessary.

The police have cordoned off a crime scene.
