New details emerge about disgraceful slur that saw ex-NRL bad boy Josh McGuire cop 12-week ban

New details are coming to light about the scandalous slur that handed NRL bad boy Josh McGuire a 12-week suspension that should end his footy career

  • Josh McGuire is banned from the UK Super League for 12 weeks
  • Follows a seven-week suspension in February
  • Warrington is now likely to tear up his contract

Josh McGuire has probably played his last game in professional rugby after the former NRL enforcer was handed a 12-week suspension for an outrageous on-field insult.

The 33-year-old was referred directly to the Super League tribunal for using ‘unacceptable language’ while playing for Warrington in a match against Leigh on May 26.

According to the Vossy and Brandy Breakfast Show on SEN, McGuire allegedly made a highly offensive comment about a rival player’s disabled family member.

McGuire pleaded not guilty and received the long-term suspension — plus a $1,860 fine.

The charge stemmed from a rule introduced to ban “verbal abuse based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability and ethnic origin.”

McGuire is said to have made a highly offensive comment about a rival player’s disabled relative when he played for Warrington against Leigh on 26 May.

The suspension comes after the Wolves striker was also suspended for seven games in February after pleading guilty to making a racial slur directed at fellow Aussie Tom Amone after a pre-season match.

A highly polarizing figure, the former Queensland Origin star moved to the UK in search of a fresh start, but it was now believed that the Wolves want to terminate his contract on disciplinary grounds.

A veteran of more than 250 NRL games with the Broncos, Cowboys and Dragons, McGuire served two five-game suspensions while with the Red V in 2021.

In addition, he was fined $12,000 by the NRL and suspended for one game after violating the game’s Covid-19 biosecurity protocols for attending Paul Vaughan’s now infamous team BBQ.

McGuire has also been referred to as a ‘grub’ by many reporting on the code and is said to be hugely unpopular with a large number of players from rival NRL clubs due to his nagging nature on the pitch.

His criminal record includes multiple charges of eye gouging, dissent to referees, and many high shots.

A highly polarizing figure, the NRL journeyman moved from the Dragons to Warrington in England, and his stint was fateful, with the Wolves likely to tear up his contract

In 2019, former Sea Eagles premiership winner Mark ‘Spudd’ Carroll stated that McGuire had to change his game or face repeated suspensions.

“I’m sick of his antics. He’s like a human caterpillar, seriously,” Carroll said.

“If he played in my time, he would get a beating. I can guarantee we’ll fix it up.’

Josh McGuire’s footy criminal record dates back to 2018
