Storing milk in the fridge door could be putting you at risk, expert warns. Here’s where it should go instead

If you keep your milk in the fridge door you could be putting yourself and your family at risk, experts warn.

According to Lynsey Crombie, known as the ‘Queen of Clean’ in Britain, milk should be stored next to the meat on the bottom shelf.

The 46-year-old appeared on British TV show This Morning to make the revelation live on air.

She asked the hosts where they kept their milk, to which they answered “doors.”

But Lynsey explained that the door was known to be the warmest part of the refrigerator.

The popular author and cleaning expert said that milk should be placed on the bottom shelf, where the temperature is the lowest.

She went on to explain that the top shelf is perfect for delicacies such as ham and cheese and that the doors should be strictly reserved for ‘open sauces’.

The presenters seemed surprised and the advice divided viewers – before landing on TikTok, where it went viral.

Milk should never be kept in the door, experts say

Some people rejected the idea that milk belongs at the bottom of the refrigerator.

‘If you put it there, it has to be on its side and it leaks. I’ll put my milk where it belongs, thanks,” one woman said.

Another added: ‘I’m in my 40s, have always kept milk in the door and it’s always been cold enough.’

“It doesn’t matter if you have a modern refrigerator,” a third person added.

“Unless you bought your fridge for $20 or it’s 18 years old, I don’t think it matters much where you put something,” another agreed.

Others were fully on board.

‘Buy milk that doesn’t leak, or close it properly. I put mine on the right shelf and have never had a problem,” one man said.

“She’s right, the meat goes there too and usually that shelf has a lip – just in case those things leak – to prevent contamination,” another added.

Some people claimed that the segment revealed daytime television had “hit rock bottom.”

‘They discuss how to stack a refrigerator. “I can’t wait until tomorrow when they’ll clean out the sock drawers,” the man sneered.

Lynsey’s advice is echoed by experts at Australian consumer group CHOICE, who claim milk is more likely to spoil if left indoors.

“Everyone keeps milk in the door, but this is actually the warmest part of the fridge,” CHOICE revealed.

Milk is best stored at or below 4 degrees Celsius.
