Netflix fans are in shock after a new documentary about the murder of Steve McNair casts doubt on the official death of the NFL star.
McNair was shot dead by his girlfriend Sahel “Jenni” Kazemi in 2009 after their extramarital affair took a dark turn.
While investigators have always been certain that Kazemi killed McNair and then himself, the Netflix series suggests that Adrian Gilliam, who sold Kazemi the gun she used in the crime, was more involved in the murder.
Netflix released Untold: The Murder of Air McNair this week, and X-users have criticized the documentary for lacking new information about the case.
Several X users were unimpressed with the documentary, and more than one person complained that it contained little information about the forensic aspects of the case.
Gilliam isn’t introduced until the end of the 58-minute documentary, with most of the episode devoted to the McNair affair.
Now several X users are complaining that the series is ‘incomplete’.
‘That Steve McNair documentary was actually more confusing than informative,’ wrote an X user.
Another person assumed that potential participants would not want to participate in the documentary, which led to the series only being ‘things we already knew.
Others were angry because they thought the documentary left out crucial information about the crime.
‘I watched the Untold about Steve McNair, and it will come as no surprise that they did a terrible job of it,’ tweeted one person.
“So much information about the murder, the investigation and so much more was left out.”
The X user added that streamers who were disappointed with the documentary should listen to the Steve McNair: Fall of a Titan true crime podcast instead.
The deceased athlete seemed to have a successful family life after marrying his high school sweetheart, Mechelle Cartwright, and having four sons.
However, McNair also had several extramarital affairs, including one with then 19-year-old Sahel ‘Jenni’ Kazemi.
The couple enjoyed lavish holidays and the former footballer even signed a contract for a new car with Kazemi for her 20th birthday in May 2009.
Kazemi ran into financial difficulties and soon after discovered that McNair was having affairs with other women.
Following these problems, Kazemi invited McNair to her Tennessee home on July 4, 2009. She shot him four times before turning the gun on herself.
While this information is crucial to why the murder-suicide occurred, it’s not surprising information for viewers looking for something new.

The murder-suicide of McNair and Kazemi was not a watertight case in the eyes of some who followed the case, including private investigator Vincent Hill.
Hill alleged that Nashville police made “a lot of mistakes,” including believing a story from Adrian Gilliam, who allegedly sold Kazemi the gun she used in the crime.
Gilliam also spoke to Kazemi on more than one occasion, even having a conversation with her before her and McNair’s deaths.
“Adrian Gilliam lied about where he was at the time of the murders,” Hill alleged in the documentary.
“He lied about how often he’d been in contact with Jenni. His alibi is blown, he’s the last person to call her, and it’s his weapon. It’s not rocket science.”
Another warning sign was Wayne Neely, the man who discovered the bodies of McNair and Kezemi.
Instead of calling the police, he called McNair’s recently estranged friend Robert Gaddy, who immediately called the authorities.
Neely was questioned by police officers later that day and video footage showed him saying he “knows a lot of police officers” before pulling out a wad of cash.

X users had a problem with the length of the documentary and the fact that there were still ‘a lot of questions’ that needed to be answered
Despite this, detectives have not filed criminal charges against Neely.
Reddit users also criticized the documentary for its lack of information about the forensic investigation surrounding the case.
“When the credits rolled I was blown away. It was just a staggering lack of information in a documentary with the word ‘murder’ in the title,” one Reddit user wrote.
“It wasn’t called ‘The Life and Murder of Air McNair’ or ‘The Birth of the Titans and the Death of the Star’ or ‘The Rise and Fall of the Sky.'”
