Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, discussed the brand’s ethos which is about showcasing sophisticated yet brutally simple style.
She said, “Anatomy, anatomy of tailoring, anatomy of clothing… where[Alexander]started on Savile Row, re-examining the construction of garments, then tearing it apart and undermining it and flipping it upside down.
“It feels smart in the times we live in – you want to feel united and strong in such chaos.”

Commissioned by Newham Heritage Month, it is the first permanent tribute to McQueen, who died after committing suicide in 2010 at the age of 40.
Speaking to the PA news agency after the revelation, Ms Fiaz said: ‘Lee McQueen exemplifies the genius of the homegrown talent that has emerged from Newham, and it doesn’t stop with him.
“If we didn’t celebrate that talent it would be negligent on our part, so it’s very important that we continue to increase the genius that comes out of the congregation and this is a good example.”
Ms Fiaz said the plaque was long overdue and described the unveiling as ‘a great moment of community celebration’.
