My Kitchen Rules stars Carly and Tresne reveal the warning signs to watch for after their IVF miracle baby died of cancer at age one
My Kitchen Rules stars Carly Saunders and Tresne Middleton have been candid about the profound loss they felt after their miraculous IVF baby died in February at the age of one.
On Thursday, the couple came forward to discuss the tragic loss and provide others with a list of easily overlooked signs that something was wrong with their daughter Poppy.
“We noticed that her belly was starting to get bigger. So it was a bit swollen. And when she was eating, she vomited quite a lot,” Tresne said 7Life.
The pair added another clue that something was wrong with Poppy when she developed a bruise on her thigh – which remained on her body after five weeks.
Their worst fears were confirmed when their beloved child was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a serious cancer of the blood.

“If they’re bruising or bleeding excessively, those are generally signs that the leukemia is affecting their bone marrow and thus affecting their blood,” Carly said.
She added that they did not realize that Poppy’s pale complexion was an important sign that she was seriously ill.
Tresne said that after the couple received the heartbreaking cancer diagnosis, they made a commitment to spend as much time as possible with Poppy.

“It made her feel like this is a normal lifestyle. We treated her no differently than any other child,” she said.
“We did as much as we could to try and normalize what happened to her. I don’t think she knew otherwise.’
The couple has been documenting their healing journey on social media since Poppy passed away in February.

They recently returned to Australia after spending some time in Thailand, hoping the trip would help them process their grief.
The pair posted a video montage of their time in Thailand on Instagram, writing, “Back home… it’s time to go home again.
“It’s beyond us that the whole time we were in the hospital with Dad all we wanted was to be home, and now we’ll do almost anything to avoid that.”
Before Poppy died, the mothers documented the reality of raising a sick child on social media and thanked their followers for their continued support.
