Dozens of people are stuck on the Southern Hemisphere's tallest roller coaster after a fault forced operators to switch off the power.
Movie World staff are currently removing the last passengers who had been suspended from the DC Rivals HyperCoaster on the Gold Coast since 3pm on Friday afternoon.
Operators of the ride noticed that a scarf had become tangled around the ride's train wheel and immediately brought it to a stop on the lift hill as a precaution.
All people on board the ride were given harnesses and told to walk down the stairs and back to the charging station while security crews monitored the situation.
Dozens of people are stuck on the Southern Hemisphere's tallest roller coaster after Movie World employees suspended the DC Rivals HyperCoaster in mid-air on Friday at 3 p.m.
In a statement, Warner Bros Movie World said their “highly trained ride operators used their control system as a precaution to safely stop the ride on the lift hill.”
“The ride's operator and the ride's safety systems did what they were trained and designed to do, and all guests on board are safe when the ride vehicle is stopped in a designated zone,” the statement said.
'We understand that ride closures can be frustrating for guests and it is for reasons like these why loose items are not allowed on board rides and attractions.
“Our team is in the process of moving these guests down the lift hill, a process we train for regularly that simply requires guests to walk up the stairs to the charging station.”
The ride will be operational again after the scarf is removed.
With speeds of up to 115 km/h, the 1.4 km long HyperCoaster is the tallest, longest and fastest roller coaster in the Southern Hemisphere with a Drop of 89 degrees.
