Motorsport star takes hilarious shot at Brad Pitt as Hollywood legend prepares to hit the track at the British F1 Grand Prix

  • Brad Pitt will make ‘F1 debut’ at Silverstone in July
  • Will be part of a movie starring the Hollywood heartthrob
  • The news lit up social media, with much disbelief from F1 fans

Motorsport star Colton Herta has taken a playful swipe at Brad Pitt on social media as the Hollywood heartthrob prepares to take to the track at the British Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Pitt, 59, will drive a race car at Silverstone from July 7 as he continues to film an F1 movie – and the irony of being beaten to a Grand Prix drive by an unqualified actor did not go unnoticed by Herta .

Last year the American was denied the super license needed to drive in motorsport’s top league for not having enough points – and was quick to voice his opinion on the matter via Twitter.

The 23-year-old – who is the youngest person ever to win an IndyCar Series race – attracted interest from the likes of Red Bull and McLaren last year, but saw his F1 dreams shattered.

Hollywood royalty Brad Pitt has long been an admirer of all things F1 and is now starring in a film about the sport with the help of Lewis Hamilton (pictured together at the US Grand Prix last year)

“Brad Pitt got me a super license. Difficult, Herta tweeted.

The news that the movie star was allowed to race on the circuit during the Grand Prix caused quite a stir on social media – and it didn’t paint Pitt in a positive light.

Some Twitter users uploaded footage of previous crashes, bluntly suggesting that F1 track driving should be left to the professionals, not A-list actors.

It has since been confirmed that Pitt will film on site at the British Grand Prix in July – in between the main F1 sessions.

Mercedes pin-up boy Lewis Hamilton will also co-produce the upcoming film and the F2 car Pitt will drive has been modified by seven-time world champion and his team’s engineers, Mercedes.

According to news.com.auF1 CEO Stefano Domenicali believes filming at Silverstone – where Pitt will play a retired driver on the comeback track – will be ‘invasive’.

“We’re going to start shooting very soon, and you’ll see it’s going to be the first movie when they’re actually going to be inside the racing event,” he said.

“It’s something we have to master in a way, but it will be another way to show that F1 never stops.”

It is hoped that the movie, which is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, will be received in the same way as the hugely popular Drive to Survive series on Netflix.
