Morgan Wallen leads CMA Award nominations with SEVEN nods while Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton tie with five (and Post Malone nabs four)

Morgan Wallen is this year’s most nominated artist at the upcoming 2024 CMA Awards.

The 31-year-old musician has received no fewer than seven nominations at the Country Music Association Awards.

For the third year in a row, Wallen is competing for both the main prize – entertainer of the year – and the male singer category.

In second place are Cody Johnson and Chris Stapleton, who both received five nominations.

Lainey Wilson and Post Malone are also both nominated for four. Malone’s nominations all come from his collaboration with Wallen, I Had Some Help.

I Had Some Help is nominated for Best Single, Best Song, Best Music Event and Best Video Clip of the Year.

Louis Bell, Luke Combs, Charlie Handsome, Hoskins, Jelly Roll and Kacey Musgraves are all up for three prizes.

Beyoncé, who released her country album Country Carter this year, surprisingly received no nominations.

Earlier this year, the album reached number one on Billboard’s country albums chart, making her the first black woman to top the chart since its inception in 1964.

The album has been five years in the making and is a direct result of what Beyoncé described as “an experience I had years ago where I didn’t feel welcome… and it was very clear that I wasn’t,” most likely a reference to a 2016 CMAs performance that prompted racist comments.

The CMA Awards are nominated and judged by members of the Country Music Association, which includes music executives, artists, publicists, songwriters and other music industry professionals.

Wallen is followed by Cody Johnson, who has also been nominated for the third year in a row in the male vocalist category, and Stapleton, who has won the award for best male vocalist of the year seven times.

Stapleton and Johnson each have five nominations.

Stapleton is up for five nominations

But Stapleton could take home seven trophies if he wins in all categories.

Stapleton is both the artist and producer of White Horse, nominated for Single of the Year, and Higher, nominated for Album of the Year.

At the Country Music Awards, production credits are not counted as separate nominations, although they do count toward determining the awards.

First-time nominee Post Malone and Wilson, last year’s Entertainer of the Year winner, are tied with four nominations. All of Malone’s nominations are for I Had Some Help.

Louis Bell, Charlie Handsome and Hoskins share the nominations with three for their work as producers and co-writers of I Had Some Help.

Jelly Roll, Combs, Kacey Musgraves and Megan Moroney also have three nominations each. The latter three could take home four trophies: Combs is both a performer and producer on Fathers & Sons, which is up for album of the year. The same goes for Musgraves’ album Deeper Well.

And Moroney is both the artist and director of her nominated music video, I’m Not Pretty.

The 2024 CMA Awards air November 20 at 8 p.m. Eastern on ABC, with streaming the following day on Hulu.
