Kylian Mbappe misses two penalty attempts and a SITTER rebound, then gets injured before the Bayern clash… before Lionel Messi scores one of three second-half goals to help PSG beat Montpellier 3-1

  • He saved Kylian MbappĆ©’s penalty but was ordered to repeat it
  • The Frenchman saw his effort stopped again and missed an easy rebound
  • Then he injured his thigh, just two weeks before the Champions League
  • FabiĆ”n Ruiz, Lionel Messi and Warren Zaire-Emery scored for the visitors

Kylian Mbappe had a night to forget, as he missed two penalty attempts and an open goal rebound in the second before being sent off with injury after just 20 minutes.

The French team were awarded a penalty early in the Ligue 1 clash with Montpellier and Mbappe stepped up to take it.

Surprisingly, the usually calm Frenchman saw his effort halted but was given a second chance when VAR ruled that players had encroached on the box.

However, this time his effort bounced back into the upright position before he fired the rebound and the goalie lay stranded.

MbappĆ©’s night then went from bad to worse as he suffered an apparent thigh injury and had to be substituted less than a quarter into the game played.

This is especially worrying for Les Parisians with the first leg of their Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich just two weeks away.

However, PSG managed to get the job done without him as Lionel Messi took charge and scored in a 3-1 win, seeing them move five points clear.

PSG came alive after the break with Fabian Ruiz, Messi and Warren Zaire-Emery finding the net to put them to 51 points from 21 games.

Speaking after the match, manager Christophe Galtier suggested that the injury was due to a blow and not a muscular problem.

“He took a hit to the back of the knee or the back of the thigh, so we’ll see,” Galtier said. I’m not too worried. It’s a bruise or a contusion, we don’t know yet.

“With the series of matches we don’t want to take risks with a very tight schedule, but it doesn’t seem that serious.”

Olympique de Marseille cruised to a 2-0 win in Nantes to move past RC Lens, who lost their first home points in a 1-0 loss to Nice, to second place.
