Monique Agostino: Model and real estate agent sent back to jail for spate of crimes

A former model and real estate agent is back behind bars after her drug addiction spirals out of control again.

Monique Agostino, 28, was sentenced to nine months in prison with a non-parole period of five months by Sutherland Local Court in southern Sydney on Thursday.

She pleaded guilty to possession of someone’s ID for committing fraud, robbery, possession of drugs, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of property suspected of being stolen and driving an unregistered, uninsured car while being disqualified .

It will be her second time in prison. In September 2020, she was sentenced to two years at Silverwater Women’s Correctional Center – one of Australia’s toughest women’s prisons.

At the time, she pleaded guilty to a series of masked robberies involving teenage boys, drug offenses, shoplifting, and having a knife in a Target store.

Agostino, from Sydney’s wealthy Northern Beaches, appealed the severity of the sentence and was released on bail.

The appeal was subsequently dismissed when she failed to show up for her court appearance.

But even after serving her sentence, a child’s mother couldn’t escape her drug and crime demons.

The court heard that 15 arrest warrants had been issued against her in recent years and that her drug use escalated when she lost her driver’s license and was unable to work in real estate.

Magistrate Hugh Donnelly said Agostino used amphetamines such as ice cream on a weekly basis until her arrest and that her attorney’s legal aid plans for a community sentence would not help her drug addiction. news.com.au reported.

The magistrate also pointed out that she had a criminal record of not showing up for court and was “a persistent offender when it comes to driving while disqualified – it’s at least the third time she’s been in court for that” .

Her lawyer said the former Instagram model had a lot of potential given the chance and that she had studied online.

“If you talk to her directly, you’d be impressed. She is an intelligent person who has used her abilities for criminal (reasons) rather than constructive reasons…that doesn’t mean it will always be that way,” the lawyer said.

Appearing via video link, Agostino asked the court to “give her some words,” but the magistrate refused, saying she had legal representation.

Before her descent from social media star to serial killer began, Agostino had thousands of followers after sharing racy photos of her in bikinis on the beach and in a skintight Catwoman outfit.

Her entry into a life of crime came in 2018, when she was involved in a series of burglaries on Sydney’s north shore.

The then 22-year-old became a getaway driver for teenage boys who robbed an Italian restaurant and tried to break into a fruit shop and café.
