Moment robbers push 90-year-old woman with dementia to the ground before taking her necklace and wedding ring

This is the horrific moment robbers push a 90-year-old woman with dementia to the ground before stealing her necklace and wedding ring.

The incident happened close to the pensioner’s home on Morris Avenue in Newham, east Londonon July 17, leaving her with bruises on her face and cuts on her elbows.

The woman’s daughter, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that her mother has advanced dementia and must follow a certain routine every day to alleviate her condition.

Part of the routine is to walk to the store in the morning and then sweep outside the house. It was at this point that the opportunistic thieves struck.

CCTV footage appears to show the woman being called to a car parked nearby on the street.

The daughter said: ‘What you can see in the footage is hands going in and out of the car and taking the chain off mum’s neck. We’re not sure how they get the ring off their finger.

“They took off and pushed her to the ground and she was found on the sidewalk by a neighbor – as far as we know.”

Due to her dementia, the elderly victim unfortunately cannot remember what happened to her and cannot provide further details to the police, but the wounds are still present.

The thieves then run off after pushing the 90-year-old woman who falls to the ground

The pensioner was left with bruises on her face and cuts on her elbows, but was helped to her feet by neighbors. Her daughter said: ‘Luckily it wasn’t anything more serious’

Fortunately, CCTV captured the incident and it appears the attackers called her to the window of the car and talked to her.

Footage appears to show them pushing her to the ground after chasing away her jewelry and then driving away in the car.

Regarding her mother’s injuries, the daughter said: ‘Luckily it was nothing more serious. She doesn’t understand; she continues to look for her ring and becomes quite upset.

‘She doesn’t understand why we don’t release her now. It ruined her routine. I’m angry, she’s 90, she’s vulnerable and can’t take care of herself.’

She added that this is also not the first time her mother was robbed in old age; her bracelet was also allegedly stolen by thieves three months ago.

Following the incident, the family and the police are asking for more information. No arrests have been made at this stage.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘Officers are currently investigating reports of a robbery which took place on Friday 17 July.

‘The victim, a woman in her 90s, had her jewelery stolen on Morris Avenue, Newham.
