Missouri issued over 8,000 personalized license plates last year – these 16 were among the rejected

Missouri motorists can make their drive even more fun by having a personalized license plate made for just $15.

Still, not every application is approved, as these funny rejections from last year show.

According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, more than 8,000 applications for personalized car tags were processed in 2023 and 475 were denied.

In order for a personalized design to be approved, the requested license plate must not violate any state obscenity laws.

Missouri law requires that license plates not be “obscene, profane, grossly offensive, or disparaging of any race or ethnic group, or contrary to good taste or decency.”

In 2023, more than 8,000 requests for personalized car labels were processed

Drivers can submit their creative requests for personalized license plates in person at the DMV (Central Automobile Bureau) or by mail.

Before a permit is approved, manual reviews are performed by multiple government employees.

The Tax Authorities also discovered and rejected inappropriate messages and words in Spanish and Korean.

According to the Kansas City Star, the state has also rejected a number of applications that mocked President Biden or referenced drugs or violence.
