Met Gala 2024: Nicole Kidman stuns in a dramatic black and white Balanciaga gown and matching opera gloves at fashion’s night of nights

Nicole Kidman was a vision in black and white as she prepared to walk the Met Gala red carpet on Monday.

The Australian actress, 59, proved she is still one of Hollywood’s best-dressed stars as she posed outside the Mark Hotel in New York City before traveling to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Nicole’s dramatic ball gown, designed by Balenciaga, featured a white strapless bodice and train, which draped over a plume of black fabric tassels reminiscent of feathers.

The look was completed with a pair of long white opera gloves and star-shaped diamond stud earrings from Harry Winston.

For makeup, Nicole accentuated her alabaster complexion with dramatic blush, black winged eyeliner and peach glossy lipstick.

She wore her strawberry blonde hair in loose waves, parted in the middle.

Nicole was accompanied by her country rocker husband Keith Urban, 59, who wore a dark blue suit and black dress shoes.

The couple was seen packing on the PDA before hopping into a waiting car and driving to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to join other VIP guests on the red carpet.

The Costume Institute’s Spring Exhibition falls on the first Monday in May each year and is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

This year the event is called Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, while the dress code is The Garden of Time.

Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth are this year’s co-chairs. Vogue’s is also on the committee Anna Wintour.

The chairs of honor for the evening are Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew.

“This year’s co-chairs reflect a variety of career achievements and each has their own style history at the Met Gala,” Vogue said.

The display will feature approximately 250 items from The Costume Institute’s permanent collection. Many of the pieces are too fragile to ever be worn again.

The pieces are all rendered using elements such as AI, GCI and more, while themes such as land, sea and sky are played out.

“It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” says Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator responsible for The Costume Institute, about the upcoming exhibition.

“One thing I hope this show will activate is the sensory appreciation of fashion.”
