Melbourne home renovation company Ultimate Kitchen and Bathrooms collapses

Yet another Australian construction company has gone bankrupt, reportedly owing millions for unfinished projects and unpaid traditions and suppliers.

Hawthorn-based kitchen and bathroom renovation company Ultimate Kitchens & Bathrooms, east of Melbourne, declared bankruptcy on October 31.

Consumer Affairs Victoria had issued a public warning the day after the company’s collapse after receiving an “influx of concerning contacts relating to the company’s activities”.

The watchdog claims the company has received payments and taken on jobs but failed to “honor consumer contracts… (or) respond to customers.”

It’s just the latest of hundreds of construction companies to declare bankruptcy in 2023.

Consumer Affairs Victoria Director Nicole Rich said she issued the warning in the interests of the public “given the number and severity of the issues raised”.

Ms Rich urged customers to “exercise caution” when dealing with the company.

The Herald Sun reports that the company has received as much as $2.5 million from customers for as many as 100 projects that have not yet been started or completed.

The company, owned by Jeffrey Richards, is also said to owe approximately $2 million in trades and suppliers, according to the release.

PCI Partners director Stephen John Michell has been appointed as liquidator of the company.

More to come.
