Meghan Markle has some unique styling tips for New Year’s Eve — and they were revealed in an unearthed blog post from more than 10 years ago.
Before she was known as the Duchess of Sussex, Markle, 43, ran a successful lifestyle blog called The Tig, which offered fashion advice, recipes, wellness tips and city guides to her readers.
However, the former Suits actress’ blog has since been deleted, except for a few websites that saved her posts living in the archives.
About ten years ago, to get into the holiday spirit, Markle has created a guide to New Year’s Eve dressing in 2014, and it turns out some of her tips can still be applied today.
At the time, she urged her readers to dress differently than just the typical “sequined mini dress” often donned on the big night.
And the future royal promised the tips will make you look ‘smoking’ in the blog post.
“Every year we all look forward to counting down as the ball drops, with a champagne glass in hand – all while looking impeccably dressed,” she wrote at the time.
“But the problem is figuring out how exactly to change up your style routine year after year as the 31st approaches, because wearing a sequined mini dress with heavy smoky eyes just doesn’t cut it,” the post continued.

Before she was known as the Duchess of Sussex, Markle ran a successful lifestyle blog called The Tig, which offered styling tips, recipes, wellness advice and city guides to her readers.
About a decade ago, to get into the holiday spirit, Markle created a New Year’s Eve dressing guide in 2014, and it turns out some of her tips can still be applied today.
‘But this year, there’s no need to spend a whole week hemming and hawing before New Year’s Eve – just follow The TIG’s simple guidelines and all you’ll have to worry about in the New Year is who exactly to meet. kiss because you’ I look smoky. Happy new year.’
Her first styling suggestion was to put on a jumpsuit – which remains timeless and can still be considered trendy today.
Markle noted that “there’s rarely a good opportunity to try out the one-piece,” but New Year’s Eve “is the way to go because it’s sexy but not too provocative.”
She also shared that if you’re tall, you’re “lucky” because you can wear some of the harder-to-put-off jumpsuit looks, like bright colors.
“If you’re shorter, opt for a sleeveless, more basic version as it will draw attention to your legs, which actually look longer in a jumpsuit,” she suggested.
The former actress’s next outfit tip was to wear a moto jacket over your maxi dress, explaining that this can help you “stand out from the crowd.”
“This is a great way to still look chic in colder weather,” she added. “If it’s really cold, put on fleece-lined tights that won’t show through your chiffon skirt.”
But if you’re not particularly in the mood for a long skirt, you can also opt for a “beaded mini,” Markle typed, claiming it was “more chic” than a metallic option.
Markle married Prince Harry in May 2018 and the two have since moved to Montecito, California
Markle recommended adding a touch of red to your New Year’s clothes and wearing sequins in an ‘unexpected way’
“Try to find a multicolored version to have the same striking effect, but pair with neutral colors on the top (like a white chiffon blouse) and bottom (like black lace-up shoes),” she suggested.
For her fourth tip on the list, Prince Harry’s wife suggested readers could “wear sequins in an unexpected way.”
‘Try a long-sleeved top or, better yet, a sequin maxi dress. It’s New Year’s Eve, so it’s time to go big or go home!’ she shared.
And last but not least, Markle recommended adding a touch of red to your New Year’s clothes.
However, there are some steps you need to take to ensure your fit stands out from the one you wore at Christmas.
“Traditionally, we keep it all black or white when celebrating the New Year, but that’s boring,” she explained at the time.
“Red is the perfect bold shade because it’s definitely festive, but it doesn’t feel like you’re just recycling your Christmas outfit (if you choose the right pieces),” her post continued.
“You’ll definitely want to choose something that feels chic: a dress with a hint of lace or a detailed skirt with slits, it all fits.”
