Meghan King delved into how bizarre the atmosphere was at her wedding to Cuffe Owens last year thanks to the presence of his uncle, President Joe Biden.
The 38-year-old former Real Housewives Of Orange County star revealed the president’s wedding gift to her as she described how her daughter Aspen, five, could hardly believe the president had been there, she said. Us Weekly on Wednesday.
The reality star also spoke about the rushed nature of her wedding, which she believes was due to Owens’ desire to get married soon.
Bizarre: Meghan King, 38, spoke about having snipers protecting President Joe Biden during her marriage to his cousin Cuffe Owens, 43, during a chat with Us Weekly on Wednesday
Meghan donated Biden’s wedding gift to the short-lived couple.
“He gave me a crystal bowl with the presidential seal,” she said, adding that the bowl is still in her possession.
“And Kamala Harris wrote me a note,” she added. “But it was weird because there was Secret Service everywhere and there were snipers around too.
“The craziest moment for me was when my daughter said, ‘Mommy, what are those boys doing?’ And there were two snipers with such huge guns, who were running because the president was about to leave. So they pack and go, so they have these huge guns. And I said, “Oh honey, those people were there to protect the president, because the president was here.” And she said, “President Biden.” And I said, “Yes.” She says, “No, he wasn’t!”‘
Even though Aspen got the chance to talk to Biden because of the intimate nature of the ceremony, she still couldn’t believe he was the president.
Can’t believe her eyes: Meghan said her daughter Aspen, five, was allowed to talk to Biden, but couldn’t believe he was president. “To her, the president is like saying Mickey Mouse, like, [he] does not exist in person’; Biden seen on September 6 in Washington, DC
In short: “I have nothing bad to say about the Bidens. They were so warm and normal and welcoming,” she said of Owens’ extended family. ‘And they felt like family’
“To her, the president is like saying Mickey Mouse, like, [he] doesn’t exist in person,” Meghan explained.
Although her formal relationship with the Bidens didn’t last long — given that she and Owens dated just three weeks before their wedding and the marriage broke up after two months — King still had good feelings for them.
‘The wedding day was wonderful. It was so nice, intimate and [Owens’] family is great. I mean, I have nothing bad to say about the Bidens at all. They were so warm and normal and welcoming,” she said. “And they felt like family.”
Though she sounded gracious about the failed marriage, which was dissolved in July, King also pointed the finger when it came to the hasty affair.
‘I didn’t want to get into it at all. It was not me. That was all his,’ she said of her ex Cuffe. “I never even wanted to get married again, but I have such a big heart and I just want my partner to be happy and I know what it’s like to be in a relationship that already has a family. For example, I have three children. I did that with my ex-husband. [Jimmy] had four children when I went into that family. So I know what it feels like to want to be part of that unit.”
Pointing fingers: ‘I didn’t want to get into it at all. It was not me. That was all his,’ she said of her ex Cuffe. “I never even wanted to get married again…”
Difficult: Meghan has had lingering issues with her second husband Jim Edmonds, who she divorced after allegations of infidelity
Meghan was first married to Brad McDill from 2007 until their divorce in 2011, and she married former professional baseball player Jim Edmonds for the second time in 2014.
He was accused of multiple infidelities, including an affair with their nanny, and he finally filed for divorce in 2019, a day after their fifth wedding anniversary. The divorce was finalized last year.
Earlier this month, Meghan had rejected two protection orders against her Jim.
Though issues with Jim — with whom she shares Aspen, five, and twins Hayes and Hart, four — linger, the former housewife sounds thankful she was able to put her marriage to Cuffe in the rearview mirror.
“We don’t communicate and stuff, which is such a gift,” she said. “I’m the kind of person that when I move on, I move on and usually don’t try to revisit the past. And unfortunately, if you have children with someone, you have to revisit the past every day – for the rest of your life. And that was, you know, a complete rollercoaster for me with the father of my kids. So it was so nice to just cut things down, learn from my lesson and move on.’
