McDonald’s Australia has shocked customers by reporting that it ordered more than 150 million kilograms of potatoes and 80 million kilograms of beef last year.
The popular fast food restaurant chain released its billion-dollar grocery list for 2023, which included everything from meat and chicken to milk, eggs and salad.
Despite a shortage of eggs and potatoes and the cost of living crisis, the fast food giant sold millions of them across the country.
Last year alone, McDonald’s contributed more than $1 billion to the local supply chain by using Australian produce and ingredients from more than 15,000 farmers in its food.
More and more foodies are choosing to eat at McDonald’s and other budget restaurants as the cost of living continues to rise across the country.
Australians have previously revealed which ‘luxury’ supermarket products they have had to give up due to rising prices, such as ice cream, steak and fresh berries.
With food and restaurant prices rising, Australians are increasingly turning to fast food outlets and budget menus to fill their bellies.
The fast food chain bought no less than 150 million kilos of potatoes in 2023, compared to 137 million kilos in 2022.

In the past year alone, McDonald’s contributed more than $1 billion to the local supply chain by using Australian produce and ingredients from more than 15,000 farmers in its food production.
McDonald’s also bought more than twice as much Australian beef last year, with customers eating 80 million kilograms of the popular beef burgers.
Surprisingly, Australians demanded less chicken than the year before. Macca’s needed just 20 million kilos for its Chicken McNuggets and burgers, compared to 26 million kilos the year before.
McDonald’s also used 79 million eggs to make its popular breakfast McMuffins.
The restaurant’s commitment to the local agricultural sector over the past 50 years has further enhanced its ability to serve “the highest quality ingredients for our customers to enjoy,” McDonald’s Australia’s Tom Mahony told FEMAIL.
McDonald’s sources its beef, chicken, potatoes, apples, milk, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, wheat flour, eggs and onions from across Australia.
