The new NBA halftime show? Mavericks fans are MARRIED during Dallas’ loss to the Timberwolves a year after the happy couple got engaged during an arena game.

While NBA games have increasingly become the scene of real-life marriage proposals, Monday’s Mavericks-Timberwolves matchup in Dallas was the scene of a royal wedding.

A little over a year after Mavericks fan Reid Malone proposed to his girlfriend Ellyn Piatt at the American Airlines Center, the two officially tied the knot at halftime on Monday with the help of the team’s announcer. Mark Followill.

“Reid and Ellyn will now exchange rings as a symbol of mutual love and commitment,” Followill, the officiant, told the crowd of 20,325. ‘It is the seal of the vows you have just taken to love each other without end.’

The couple exchanged rings, repeated vows and shared a theatrical kiss to the delight of the Mavericks faithful.

“By the power that has been vested in me and with 20,000… as witnesses, it is my pleasure to declare you man and wife,” Followill said to applause.

‘Mavs fans,’ Followill exclaimed, ‘please welcome Reid and Ellyn Malone!’

The Mavericks reportedly hosted the ceremony at a game after the couple got engaged at the American Airlines Center in December 2021, according to WFFA Dallas. Reid and Ellyn also received a team gift card as a wedding present.

Unfortunately for the happy couple, the Mavericks lost 124-121 as Dallas’ Kyrie Irving-Luka Doncic union got off to a rocky start. Still, the pair combined for 69 points on 25-of-43 shooting.

The happy couple got to enjoy their first dance on Center Court before the Mavs lost to the Timberwolves.

Malone is a high school volleyball teacher and coach, according to a post on the Springdale Athletics (Texas) Facebook account. Ellyn is listed as a Walmart merchant associate, according to her LinkedIn profile.

“I’ve been working NBA games for 16 years,” Timberwolves broadcaster Michael Grady tweeted. “I’ve seen several engagements… This is the first part-time wedding I’ve ever seen.”
