The emotional moment when a football fan cried uncontrollably upon meeting her Matildas icon Sam Kerr has been caught on camera.
The video shared on TikTok shows the young woman sobbing as she takes a picture with the Australian striker just after the team’s 4-0 victory over Canada in Melbourne.
“That time I got a picture with Sam Kerr and reacted like the adult I am,” the caption on the video reads.
“This is what women’s sport means to me.”
The meeting with Kerr (pictured after Australia’s World Cup win against Denmark) was almost too much for the fan to handle
The fan turns to the camera as tears roll down her cheeks as her friends try to comfort her after she leans over the fence to take a picture with the superstar.
“Oh my god, oh my god!” says the filmmaker.
Other Aussie football fans loved what the video said about the depth of feeling for the team as they chase World Cup glory.
‘You’ve summed up what the Matildas and Sam mean to all of Australia. There is no other national team that owns the hearts of a country,” one wrote.
“Why am I, an American, crying here?” asked another.
‘Same girl same. This is the correct answer,” a third commenter wrote, while her view was echoed by another fan who added, “This was my reaction when I met her honestly.”
The Matildas skipper should be the most requested person in Australia as her team chases their dream of lifting the trophy on August 20.
It comes as the Matildas prepare to take on France in the quarter-finals on August 12.
Kerr made a dramatic comeback against Denmark after being sidelined with a calf injury.
Kerr’s return from injury leaves Australia with a minor squad headache with some concern over the impact on Australia’s other offensive weapons when they take the field against France.
She was one of only a dozen Matildas players to train at the side’s base in Brisbane on Wednesday 48 hours after taking part in the World Cup as debate rages over her place in the starting squad.
