A private school student from Massachusetts suffered a traumatic brain injury after being forced off the road while cycling in Spain.
Lauren Rauseo, a junior at Stonehill College in Easton, was on vacation in Mallorca when a car ran her off the road last Sunday, causing her to crash into a wall, leaving her “fighting for her life far from home.”
The teen remains in a medically induced coma as her family scrambles to raise the $250,000 needed to fly her home to a specialized pediatric ICU trauma unit in Boston.
‘She’s quite confused. She has a traumatic brain injury, a broken collarbone, a broken hip and a punctured lung,” Lauren’s father Dave Rauseo told Boston 25 News.
Despite this, Rauseo, who is by Lauren’s side in Spain, said his daughter is showing small signs of improvement.

Lauren, who studied in Paris and Mallorca for a holiday, suffered a traumatic brain injury, a broken collarbone, a broken hip and a punctured lung.
“The prayers work because we just left the hospital and she took my hand and was able to listen to her mother and open her eyes to her mother,” he told the outlet.
“My goal now is to get my child home,” he explained, referring to the necessary medical flight.
“I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for the support,” he said.
Lauren was on exchange in Paris and had taken a weekend trip to the Spanish island.
a GoFundMe was created to help Lauren’s family cover the “staggering” costs of the flight and other medical needs.
The page had raised more than $118,000 toward its $250,000 goal as of Saturday afternoon.
The family friend, who set up the fundraiser, described Lauren as “a vibrant and compassionate young woman with dreams as wide as the ocean.”
The accident “left her in critical condition,” they explained.

They added, “Together we can help bring this beautiful soul back home, where she belongs, surrounded by those who love her most.”
Lauren’s classmates have expressed their shock after the accident.
“When I got the news, it was just devastating,” friend and colleague Junior at Stonehill told Boston 25.
“She’s the last person on earth to ever deserve something like that.
“She is the sweetest person I have ever met,” Chmielowiec added.
“We all came together as friends and just sat here and prayed and worried about her,” said Ellie Houk, another friend from Stonehill, after visiting Lauren in the hospital.
