Man is taken to hospital with horrific burns after a duplex unit explodes on the Gold Coast

A man suffered “significant burns” in an apparent explosion in a duplex.
Emergency services were called to Fortune St, Coomera on the Gold Coast at 4.19pm Monday to find thick plumes of smoke coming from the property.
“(Queensland Ambulance Service) is currently treating a patient with significant burns,” a QAS spokesman said shortly after the incident.
The man was later taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in serious condition.

Meanwhile, a woman in her 20s was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable condition with suspected back injuries.
Nine News reporter Bailey Kenzie said the man’s burns are “whole body.”
The network’s aerial footage shows the property destroyed by fire, with firefighters still on site mopping up at the time of writing.
Queensland Police are also on hand and have established a crime scene, with the cause of the explosion still to be determined.
