An Australian makeup artist has developed a waterless makeup brush cleaner and steamer to remove stubborn marks, and it’s fast becoming a bestseller.

Beth Wilson, 30, who lives in Melbourne, took advantage of the first extended Covid lockdown of 2020, and the gap from seeing her regulars, to evoke her brand. Saint Jack.

“As a professional makeup artist, I couldn’t work with clients, so it was the perfect time to think critically about the products I was using in my kit and the gaps I personally experienced,” she said.

“That’s when I realized there weren’t any cleaning products on the market that I really loved using. All the brush cleaners I had used were either ineffective, smelled awful, or were imported from abroad, so they were often out of stock and hard to come by.

‘I knew there was room for an Aussie brand that was taking the most tedious part of makeup, cleansing, and made it a little bit easier and more luxurious for makeup pros and lovers alike.

‘The brand name is a nod to my grandfather Jack, who died before I was born. Although we never met, we share many of the same interests in music and the arts, so I feel very connected to him.

‘My parents nicknamed him Saint Jack. I’m very sentimental and I wanted a part of myself in my brand name, so this was perfect for me.’

The formula works as the liquid is absorbed into the brush fibers and the alcohol breaks down even the most stubborn product buildup.

It kills bacteria and removes stains from brush bristles when you apply the formula to an old washcloth or towel, leaving you with a shiny brush that’s dry and ready to use again in minutes.

No more waiting a full day for brushes to dry, and very little wrist action to get the results you’re looking for.

Saint Jack also sells a cleansing tin for those who want to dispense the liquid onto something else before cleaning, with the original 800ml bottle lasting for months for the average makeup expert.

“I’ve been told by some of Australia’s most respected makeup artists that ‘nothing has ever left my brushes this clean’ and several clients have called it ‘magic’,” said Ms Wilson.

“My favorite comment came on an Instagram comment the other day, from a customer who said she hadn’t cleaned her makeup brushes in years, until she tried Bang For Your Brush, she now cleans her brushes weekly and is overhauled.

“More than anything, I wanted my brush cleaner to be easy to use so it could become part of a routine, so this answer is amazing.”

Makeup Cleansing Mist ($36) can be used to spritz your makeup brushes between uses when you’re not ready for a deep clean, and even your own makeup.

“I don’t think many people understand that when you use a sunscreen, for example, bacteria builds up in your product with each use,” Ms Wilson said.

“People know they should be cleaning their brushes, but few know they should be cleaning their makeup, too.

“Simply spray the light mist over your palettes, powders, and creams and bacteria are gone, helping to prevent acne and skin irritations.”

Ms Wilson was averaging 50 sales a week before Christmas, but a viral TikTok video last week saw that number increase by more than 300 per cent.

‘I actually sold myself! In an incredible twist of fate, after such an amazing response to the product launch, more units were already in production, and luckily these were delivered on time to fulfill all those orders,” he said.

The brand is currently formulating its third ‘top secret’ product, which will launch before the end of the year.
