I left Ireland to move to Australia – now I make a month’s wage in just one week and have a holiday booked every fortnight

A smart young woman has told how she takes home a hefty salary of £6,000 a month, as well as fortnightly holidays.

Clio, from Ireland, made the 9,000-mile journey all the way down, leaving her old job in healthcare in search of a new career.

The young woman shared TikTok the benefits of her new FIFO role in Australia and how you can land a similar gig.

Clio currently holds a utility role at an Australian mine site on a fly-in fly-out (FIFO) basis.

She explained that her role involves cleaning, helping in the kitchen and doing laundry, claiming that the new position will see her take home her monthly salary as a healthcare worker in just one week.

A week as a utility worker sees the Clio land somewhere between £1,200 and £1,570, for seven days’ work.

Due to the nature of the FIFO role, the woman works every day for two weeks, which means she can relax for a whole week afterwards.

Clio has used her free time wisely, flying around South East Asia and Australia every two weeks.

Many of her followers were eager to know how she landed the dream role, but the utility worker admitted it took a few tries.

She advised those who wanted to follow her path to contact the relevant authorities in the region[s] they want to work, and tailor their resumes.

“Make sure you say you have experience in whatever position you’re trying to apply for, so if it’s utilities, say you have experience in housekeeping or cleaning.”

She added, “And if they don’t answer even once, just keep going and going and going.”

Clio also gave tips on how to make your application stand out among the sea of applicants.

“If you’re coming along and you want to get serious about it, make sure you get a white card and an Australian driver’s license because that’s usually what they look at more at applicants,” she recommended.

‘[But] I know a lot of people who also live here and don’t have a driver’s license, can’t drive and also work for a utility company.’

A white card, also known as a general construction induction card, is a requirement for individuals wishing to work in construction in Australia.

Those who are required to have a white card include supervisors, surveyors, workers, tradesmen and site managers.

An increasing number of people are seeking FIFO positions in Australia due to the attractively high salaries they offer. The sun reported.

FIFO workers have their accommodation, flights and food paid for by their employers, meaning there are no extra bills.

The reality of living rent-free and working only six months is one reason why many employees will overlook the physically grueling and long hours that come with this position.
