A lewd act that went viral around the world almost spelled the end for an Australian football club that prided itself on its 50-year history.

The full fallout from the viral video, which showed a Glen Waverley Football Club player performing a sexual act on another male player in a Melbourne pub, can now be revealed months after the disgusting display gained global coverage.

On Thursday, Monash City Chief Executive Dr Andi Diamond told Daily Mail Australia he had no choice but to intervene after reports of “worrying and inappropriate behaviour” at the end-of-season event of the club.

“Council staff met with club management to seek clarity on the steps that are being taken to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again,” Dr Diamond told Daily Mail Australia.

Those steps, according to herald sunhe went so far as to remove the club from its council-owned halls.

In a letter seen by the Melbourne newspaper, the council highlighted clauses in the club’s contract involving inappropriate behavior and how it could withdraw use of a facility at any time.

“The council seeks to understand what action the club will take to ensure that the club’s behaviors align with council policy to ensure eligibility for future use of council facilities,” the state was informed in the letter.

Dr Diamond declined to address with Daily Mail Australia how harshly the council was prepared to punish the club for its humiliating plague on the township.

But he made it clear that council members were outraged by what happened inside the Mountain View Hotel.

“The council understands that the event was not sanctioned by management, however we have clear expectations of how clubs located at council facilities should operate both on and off the pitch,” said Dr. Diamond.

At the time of the incident, news reports described the behavior as so vile, so public and so exaggerated that it would be forever linked not just to the club, but to the entire suburb.

They further claimed that the toilets were damaged and covered in vomit and that players were abusing other patrons.

But what happened next to a pool table that day will add Glen Waverley Football Club to every list of Mad Monday misfortunes for decades to come.

The story goes when a player lost a bet to another who was forced to perform a sexual act in the pub.

That act, in all its depravity, was captured on video by another team member, whose decision to share the hilarity caused the footage to go viral within hours.

The winner, dressed in a white sea captain’s jacket emblazoned with medals, was filmed standing with his legs spread and his underwear pulled down as the loser knelt down and performed the act.

A man was heard yelling as another player clad in convict orange stepped inside to get a better look.

A young player wearing a Geelong jersey watched.

The 12-second video spread quickly among local soccer circles and was in the hands of Melbourne journalists the next day.

The story, which first appeared in Melbourne’s herald sunit was instantly picked up by national news sites before being featured on the world famous celebrity website TMZ.

Before long, the New York Post was breaking the story, as were other news sites spread across the globe.

Simply typing ‘Glen Waverley’ into Twitter yields countless tweets referring to the club’s twisted antics within Mountain View.

Club chairman Matt Hollard told Daily Mail Australia in August that the team’s behavior during the end-of-season celebrations on August 14 threatened to derail the last 20 years of work to build the club.

“Although I am very concerned about the players, I am the president of the football club, meaning everyone within the club, so my concern is huge and exhausting and we have to do the best we can to deal with a horrible situation. ‘, said.

Hollard told the Herald Sun that many sponsors quickly left the club as parents pulled their sons out of the youth ranks.

With the final drawing near, the club was in danger of being thrown out of its ‘premier’ facility at Central Reserve.

Sales of alcoholic beverages at the finals helped keep the club afloat for years.

When the club tried to explain how it was dealing with the disorder, the council reportedly told the chairman that a decision had been made to move them to Wellington Reserve in Mulgrave and suspend their liquor license.

“That’s absolutely not true,” he said.

On November 11, the club announced a completely new technical team for 2023.

The announcement came with a publicity note saying the team would help “rebuild our club with enthusiasm and pride by delivering an inclusive, inspiring culture and passionate commitment as we also celebrate our 50th anniversary.”

At the time of that announcement, the club still faced a very uncertain future.

According to the Herald Sun, the council decided to allow the club to stay in its house only days ago after it made an impassioned plea to the mayor and other councillors.

Dr Diamond told Daily Mail Australia that the council was now satisfied with the way the crisis had been handled by those in charge.

Council staff are comfortable with the way the club has handled this issue, including commitment to cultural changes, plans for a new coaching structure, expansion of the football club committee and expected player recruitment junior and senior for the 2023 season. The club will continue to operate at its current headquarters,’ he said.

While the scandal caused some 30 players to leave the club, it will enter next season looking to field an Under-19 team for the first time.
