Luis Suarez could soon hang up his boots after it was revealed the striker is in ‘constant pain’ amid his battle with injuries.
The Uruguayan striker has been practicing his trade in Brazil with Serie A side Gremio since leaving his boyhood club Nacional in late December last year.
He made 25 appearances in all competitions for the side, but his time at the club was plagued by injury problems.
Having missed six games so far through injury, the club’s chairman has now revealed that Suarez is in “constant pain” and is on the verge of retirement.
In a video that appeared on Twittersaid club president Alberto Guerra: ‘Luis Suárez is reaching his limit.

‘To be able to play, he receives injections and special treatments almost every day, he feels constant pain. The matter is serious.”
Suarez has had long-standing problems with his knee and was sidelined for 149 days following surgery during his time at Barcelona.
The 36-year-old has managed to score 11 goals and provide eight assists in his appearances for the Brazilian side despite his injury problems.
He also helped the club claim the 2023 Campeonato Gaúcho title after a 2–1 aggregate win over Caxias RS where Suarez scored one of his team’s goals.
Prior to joining Gremio at the start of the year, Suarez played for youth club Nacional in the Uruguayan Primera División.
During his six-month spell at the club, he managed to score eight goals in 16 games and help them win a league title.
Suarez ended his time in Europe after leaving Atletico Madrid in 2022. He had spent two years in Madrid and was part of the side that won LaLiga in 2020-21.
Before that, he spent six years with Barcelona and four years with Liverpool, where he scored a combined 280 goals in 416 games.

News of Suarez’s potential retirement comes just days after reports that former Sunderland star Asamoah Gyan will also hang up his boots.
Gyan and Suarez were infamously involved in one of the most incredible finishes of a World Cup match after meeting in 2010.
Suarez controversially held the ball out of Uruguay’s goal with his hands in the final moments of the game and was sent off – leaving him in tears.
Gyan stepped up but missed the penalty and Uruguay eventually prevailed on the night.
