Mohamed Salah cut a somber figure during Liverpool’s warm-up ahead of kick-off against West Ham after being relegated to the bench.

The Egyptian is Liverpool’s most prolific goalscorer this season with 24 strikes in all competitions, but struggled in the midweek Merseyside derby defeat to Everton.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has typically relied on Salah in big games during his stunning spell at Liverpool, but has opted to start Harvey Elliott in his place at the London Stadium.

Failed striker Darwin Nunez was also replaced for the test against the Hammers, joining Salah on the bench as Klopp made the big decision to replace two of his most formidable strikers.

Luis Diaz was the only striker to retain his starting role after Tuesday’s crushing defeat at Goodison Park.

There was no sign of Salah’s usual pre-match joy whenever Liverpool played as warm-ups began before the 12.30 kick-off against West Ham.

The 31-year-old appeared to sulk as he was put through a host of team and individual warm-up exercises.

Salah’s frustration has not gone unnoticed as Liverpool fans took to social media to express their unknown annoyance at the club’s legendary winger.

Former Premier League player and pundit Jan Age Fjortoft was quick to spot Salah’s unhappy expression and shared a video of the Liverpool forward going through a rondo exercise with teammates.

Fans reacted to the footage and questioned the Liverpool star’s commitment to the cause after he was tipped for a possible summer signing alongside Klopp.

The comments then poured in, with one Liverpool supporter replying: “It’s definitely deserved, he hasn’t been good enough lately.”

Another critic added: ‘He looks checked out,’ while a third commented: ‘He 100% should be, he’s been terrible for about ten games. No player is bigger than Liverpool FC’.

Others joined in with a follow-up comment in response to Fjortoft, saying: ‘He hasn’t looked good since returning from injury and you shouldn’t be picked based on reputation.

‘I’d be surprised if he stayed over the summer. I think this is the right time for both Liverpool and Salah to part ways. He is and will always be a LEGEND of Liverpool.’

Another post suggested the Champions League and Premier League winner was angry, adding: ‘I hope he’s not sulking…’.
