Liverpool are approaching their first summer signing with the club hoping to sign a deal for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister this week, Mail Sport understands.
It is believed that there has been contact between the two sides and as the midfielder is eager to work with Jurgen Klopp, the process is expected to go smoothly.
The exact value of the move is currently unknown, despite the release clause in his contract, although the final fee could be as high as £60 million.
World Cup winner Mac Allister signed new terms at Amex Stadium last October, extending a deal that would otherwise have expired at the end of this season.
Manchester United were thought to be keen to sign the playmaker but had to leave after Mac Allister expressed a desire to move to Anfield.
The 24-year-old’s representatives are in England and talks are underway.
Liverpool are expected to spend more money this summer, even after landing the 24-year-old, with Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Romeo Lavia targeted.
According to L’Equipethe club has entered negotiations with Ligue 1 side Nice over a potential deal for Thuram, with money being cleared through spending.
Indeed, Klopp is keen to strengthen his midfield after James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left the club as free agents.
However, Jude Bellingham is tied to Real Madrid.
However, Liverpool are exploring a number of options for the position and have discussed the possibility of signing Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 22-year-old moved to the Bundesliga in January 2021 and has since made 60 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.
