A caddy was hit in the head by what appeared to be a full bottle of water as wild celebrations at LIV Golf Adelaide spiraled out of control.

Nick Pugh, who is on the bag for Lucas Herbert, celebrated with the Australian after making birdie two on the 12th hole Down Under.

Bottles and cups were already scattered around the green as Herbert prepared to end his round with a putt from about six feet.

More water and beer were thrown from the galleries after the ball rolled into the cup and the Australian took in the cheers.

Pugh also played tricks on the crowd, jokingly pretending to dodge the plastic bottles as they fell over the green.

But as the caddy turned to put the flag back in the hole, a bottle – which appeared to be full – flew out of the galleries and hit Pugh on the back of the head.

He fell to one knee after the painful blow, while Herbert came over to check on his caddie’s health.

Footage of the incident appeared on social media, sparking angry reactions from some fans. ‘This is a shame. There is no place for this in golf at all,” one person said.

‘What do you expect?!? Aren’t you surprised?!? It was only a matter of time,” another added.

LIV Golf Adelaide was one of the success stories of the Saudi-funded breakout, with fans creating a raucous atmosphere for the rebel players.
