A litter of seven puppies has been abandoned in devastating conditions in a fiercely cold field.

The spaniel puppies suffered from severe leg deformities, urine burns and were infected with skin mites that caused mange.

They were discovered dumped in a field in Swanley, Kent and were immediately taken to a vet for treatment.

A charity that helped the puppies, New Hope Animal Rescue, has described the condition they were found in as ‘horrendous’.

It hopes to nurse the neglected spaniels back to health, but says it is still a ‘risky time for them’.

The charity has released distressing images of the puppies, detailing the horrific condition they were found in.

The charity blames the seriously ill health of the puppies on a lack of space to grow and poor nutrition.

A spokesperson for the animal rescue charity said: ‘We had such a sad case and a truly heartbreaking start to life for this little family.

‘These seven spaniel puppies were dumped in a terrible condition.

‘At first glance it may seem like their skin is the problem.

‘They have a serious, untreated case of Demodex mange, although that’s terrible isn’t the worst thing for this gang.

‘They have severe deformities in their legs, both in the back and in the front, some more severe than others.’

Some puppies have poorly bent legs, little fur and suffer from worms.

The spokesperson added: ‘They are full of worms and pass straw when they go to the toilet.

‘They are so burned by the urine that their legs have deep sores here and there.

‘This is a risky time for them, but we hope we can pull them all through. These boys are going to need a lot of care.”

They are currently still receiving care and treatment at New Hope Animal Rescue.
