Lionel Messi turned down an offer to appear on CBS Sports’ Champions League broadcast in Miami on Wednesday night because Jamie Carragher was on the show, according to host Kate Abdo.

Carragher revealed last year that Messi sent him a private message on Instagram after criticizing his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, with the Argentina legend allegedly calling him an ‘ass’.

‘I had a little pop with me [Cristiano] Ronaldo did not think it was a great acquisition earlier this season [Manchester] United, then I said the example of Messi, I didn’t think Messi was a great signing for PSG,” the former Liverpool defender said in January 2022.

And it seems Messi is unwilling to forgive him for the comments, as after revealing that CBS had indeed sent him an official invite, Abdo claimed Carragher was to blame for the Inter Miami striker having the chance rejected to take part in their Champions League broadcast. .

“Do you know we made an official invitation to Inter Miami and asked him to come to the show, do you know what the official answer was,” Abdo asked the cast.

‘Apparently Lionel Messi won’t do any TV shows that Jamie Carragher is a part of.’

At the time, the team had discussed the age-old debate between Messi and Ronaldo, and Carragher had essentially made the argument that while Ronaldo is the greatest goalscorer of all time, Messi is the greatest player of all time.

Carragher went on to say that he considers Messi’s refusal to do a show because of him a ‘claim to fame’, before asking the crowd if they would have preferred him to be involved rather than the football icon.

Considering Messi has been the talk of the football universe since joining Inter Miami, it would only make sense that he would have been invited to appear on the show.

After moving to Miami in the summer, he helped the franchise win its first-ever MLS Leagues Cup.

Messi was last seen during the chaotic brawl that took place during Argentina’s match against Brazil.

FIFA has felt an investigation has been opened into the incident, which could lead to Brazil being punished with a points reduction or being forced to play matches behind closed doors.
