South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham joked on Twitter Friday that former President Donald Trump may want to “break some windows” and “punch a cop” if he wants to avoid arrest in New York.
Graham, a Republican ally of Trump and golf fellow, made the joke Friday when the president’s team and the Secret Service made arrangements for his arrest in Manhattan Tuesday following his indictment over a “silence” payment arrangement with porn star Stormy Daniels.
“How Can President Trump Avoid Prosecution in New York?” Graham asked online with a thinking emoji.
On his way to the district attorney’s office on Tuesday, Trump would have to smash some windows, rob a few stores and punch a cop. He would be released IMMEDIATELY!’
South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham tweeted that Trump should smash some windows on his way to the district attorney if he wants to avoid arrest, following a TV appearance on the night where he told people to “give the president some money”
Graham appeared to be joking at the expense of District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who was accused by Trump allies of soft-spoken New York crime even while pursuing the Trump investigation. Trump himself accused Bragg of “doing Joe Biden’s dirty work.”
Trump has long demanded the arrest of lawbreakers in cities like New York and Chicago, even as he attacks the FBI and prosecutors he sees as part of a “witch hunt” against him.
At the same time, he opened his rally in Waco, Texas this past weekend with the song “Justice For All,” which features Jan. 6 suspects dubbed the “J6 Choir,” along with a recording of Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Justice Department is prosecuting hundreds of defendants for shattering windows, illegally entering the Capitol and wounding police officers that day.
Graham’s tweet came hours after an evening appearance on Fox News poll host Sean Hannity’s show, where a emotional Bradwho served in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps in the Air Force charged Bragg with “double (sic) charges” and called the 34-count indictment a “pile of nonsense.”
“They’re trying to bleed him dry!” he begged. “Give the president some money to fight this nonsense! This is going to destroy America!”
