Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is facing more questions about his finances with a new report on Sunday revealing thousands of dollars in income he reports from a real estate company associated with his wife Ginni Thomas.
And that company no longer exists, closed 17 years ago
Thomas reported on his financial disclosure forms rental income totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars from a firm called Ginger, Ltd., Partnership, The Washington Post reported.
But that Nebraska-based real estate company, founded in the 1980s, has been out of business since 2006.
The latest revelation about problems with Thomas’s legally required financial disclosure forms raises questions about how seriously he took his obligation to disclose his finances to the public.
Government officials are required to complete such forms to demonstrate whether they have a conflict of interest between their personal finances and public duties. Thomas faces calls for an investigation and his resignation.

Sunday’s Washington Post report also details how Thomas had years of errors on his forms, many of which related to his controversial wife Ginni, who became a nationally known figure in the aftermath of the 2020 election when reports her emails to Arizona revealed. officials questioning Joe Biden’s victory in that state.
The latest problems for Clarence Thomas are related to this real estate company that went out of business in 2006.
After the closure, a new firm Ginger Holdings, LLC, which is controlled by Ginni Thomas’ sister, took over the holdings.
But Thomas has reported earnings from the defunct company — between $50,000 and $100,000 a year in recent years — without mentioning the new company.
It could be a simple paperwork error.
But the Supreme Court judge has faced questions about his finances since ProPublic revealed that he and his wife Ginny are taking lavish, luxury vacations from Dallas-based Republican mega-donor Harlan Crow who Thomas did not disclose despite being required by law to do so.
Thomas said he had not made them public because the trips belonged to a friend and he had been assured that “personal hospitality” from close friends was allowed.
But the watchdog group CREW has filed civil and criminal charges against him in the case, and Senate Democrats have demanded that Chief Justice John Roberts investigate Crow’s gifts.
Some Democrats have called on the Supreme Court to pass a formal code of ethics — it is currently the only court in the federal judiciary not to have one for its nine members.
Some have even called for 74-year-old Thomas to resign. Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib have called for his impeachment.
The judiciary did not respond The Washington Postquestions about real estate income.
Elliott told the paper they could ask her sister Ginni about the case.
“You could call her and she can answer anything she wants you to know,” Elliott said before hanging up.
Clarence Thomas described receiving $270,000 to $750,000 from the Nebraska company since 2006, calling it “rent.” His salary as a judge this year is $285,000.
The income is tied to investments from Ginni Thomas’ deceased parents. Ginni Thomas is from Omaha.

Ginni Thomas is not mentioned in the state’s incorporation deeds at the formation of the new company.
But her income has been a problem for Thomas in the past.
In the 2000s, he did not disclose his wife’s work, as required by law, until the watchdog group Common Cause reported the omission.
Ginni Thomas earned more than $686,000 from the conservative Heritage Foundation from 2003 to 2007, but he ticked the “none” box for his wife’s income during that period.
He did the same in 2008 and 2009 when she worked for conservative Hillsdale College.
He admitted the error in 2011 when he edited his filings, saying the information was “accidentally omitted due to a misunderstanding of filing instructions.”
Ginni Thomas is a lawyer and longtime conservative activist.
She was an ardent supporter of Donald Trump. In the aftermath of the 2020 election, when Trump falsely claimed it was stolen from him, her email correspondence between with Trump’s attorney general John Eastman — which supported the legal theory claimed by the then-Vice President Mike Pence had the power to overturn states’ election results – came to light.

It later emerged that Thomas encouraged state legislators in Arizona and Wisconsin to overturn the results of the presidential election.
She was called to testify before the panel investigating the January 6 riot at the Capitol.
And many critics called on Judge Thomas to withdraw from all election-related cases coming before the Supreme Court.
Ginni Thomas told the Jan. 6 committee that she stays in the political job at home and her husband remains in a ‘legal’ job.
“He’s not interested in politics,” she said. “I didn’t talk to him at all about the details of my post-election activities, they were minimal.”
