Kylie Gillies opens up about heartache as she offers a teary-eyed goodbye to son Gus

Kylie Gillies said goodbye to her son Gus on Tuesday night as he left for an overseas adventure.

The 56-year-old Morning Show host took to Instagram to share a slew of photos from the heartbreaking moment as her beloved boy took off from Sydney airport.

Kylie, who shares sons Archie, 18, and Gus, 20, with husband Tony, was clearly beside herself, writing emotional words alongside the post.

“You help them get wings. And then they fly away. A parent’s proud moment. And also heartache. Safe travels for the next 12 months Gus,” she wrote.

She encouraged Gus to “make memories” and enjoy his time after finishing school.

‘Have fun, learn a lot, make memories and if you don’t text us I swear I’m on the next flight to Europe. A joke. Or am I? We love you,’ she finished.

A number of Kylie’s followers reached out.

“Oh Kylie – remember when it was day 1 of TMS and he kept you up all night… and now look at your beautiful boy… who is now a man ready to take on the world. You did a good job,” one fan wrote.

“Sending love Kylie, such a bittersweet experience xo,” added another.

“But look what a great job you all did to give Gus the courage and confidence to do this! Bravo x,” wrote yet another.

Kylie spared no expense for her son’s going-away party after buying a whopping 250 chicken tenders and 24 packs of large potato chips from KFC.

‘Party at the Gillies. At least for our boys,” she explained alongside photos of her posing with large boxes of KFC merchandise.

‘This is what 250 KFC tenderloins and 24 large fries look like. Not sponsored. Wish it were… those secret herbs and spices sure can add up. #worthy,” Kylie added.

Kylie married Australian Associated Press editor-in-chief Tony in 1989.

The television presenter opened up about motherhood in May last year in an interview with Good Health magazine.

“My weekends and weeknights are filled with the boys’ sporting events,” she said.

“Being a mom to teens is great, but it’s busy. It’s a full-time job, coupled with my full-time TV job.’
