A thirsty koala seeking refuge in a suburban backyard befriended the residents’ koala tree decorations.
Rainer Harman said he and his family noticed a tired-looking koala sitting at the base of a tree in the backyard of his north-east Adelaide home on Tuesday.
He said the koala was shy at first but accepted the family’s help once he saw the other ‘koala’.

“After quenching his thirst, he drank a lot, climbed a little higher, found a comfortable place and went to sleep,” he said.
The family said it was a “delight” to be so close to the “thirsty visitor.”

The sweet moment came at the same time that the New South Wales Labor Party announced a plan to establish a Great Koala National Park on the state’s mid-north coast ahead of the New South Wales election in March.
NSW opposition leader Chris Minns said the plan was designed to help save the marsupials, and Australian wildlife experts say the animal is at risk of extinction by 2050.
Labor said they would spend $80 million to create the sanctuary within existing national parks and state forests between Kempsey and Grafton.
