I bought an $18 Kmart bag so luxe many can’t tell it apart from the $6,000 version

Australian women are head over heels in love with a ‘chic’ budget bag that is being compared to a $5,800 designer purchase.

The Woven Shoulder Bag ($18) from Kmart Australia is available in black and cream.

Many have noticed a sharp resemblance to Italian luxury fashion brand Bottega Veneta’s Hop bag ($5,800).

Both bags feature Bottega’s signature intrecciato weave, first used in the 1960s.

Australians have tightened their wallets in recent months as the country slowly climbs out of its cost-of-living crisis. That’s why Kmart’s cheap dupe of the trendy design has become such a hit.

Women call it the ‘perfect’ bag that instantly dresses up any outfit – and its handy size makes it a stylish go-to for a quick supermarket run or after-school care.

“I have the black Kmart bag, it’s super comfortable on the shoulder and a good size,” said one mother.

“Kmart is much better,” said another, comparing the tighter weave to Bottega’s.

Kmart Australia’s popular Bottega dupe is also available in cream

“Oh my god, I love it. Beautiful,” one fan added of the popular bag.

Similarly, another stylish $15 bag flew off the shelves of Kmart after shoppers noticed a similarity to a luxury designer bag that cost almost $10,000.

The Shimmer Bag ($15) features a unique curvilinear base and glitter detailing all around, including along the crossbody strap.

Kmart’s affordable product resembles Spanish fashion house Balenciaga’s famous Hourglass XS handbag ($9,900).

While the luxury bag is suede calfskin and studded with rhinestones, Kmart’s version is a dupe that’s close enough to make anyone do a double take.

Hundreds of shoppers shared their love for the budget brand online.

“I just went to Kmart to buy an umbrella and spent $200,” said one. “Kmart is putting me out of business.”

“I’m in love with Kmart bags,” wrote another.
