The son of ESPN analyst Kirk – also a former Buckeye – revealed he’s had some sort of “setback” in recent times before assuring those involved that he’s on an upward trajectory.
Kirk Herbstreit released a statement on behalf of his son via his own Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.
“I’ve had a bit of a setback the past few weeks. Not feeling well. Culminated with test results last Friday that forced me into the hospital.
“I have some of the best cardiologists looking after me, and I am beyond grateful.

“We’ll run some tests and come up with a plan to make sure I can feel normal again.
“I appreciate the overwhelming support over the past few days. I feel good and hope to be out of the hospital soon.’
Prior to the statement, Kirk acknowledged the reaction of individuals who expressed concern about his six-foot son.
“I just wanted to add how much we appreciate so many people who are concerned about his well-being,” Kirk said. “He has a long journey ahead of him.”
In a follow-up tweet, Kirk urged those who wanted to support his son to message him directly.
Kirk issued a statement on behalf of his son, expressing the hope that he would soon be released
“He’s awake and occasionally on his phone. If you want to drop him a note, he’s on @ZHerbstreit. Thank you again so much for your thoughts and prayers for Zak.”
Herbstreit is one-third of the first three-generation family in Ohio State history.
Kirk Herbstreit played at Ohio State from 1989 to 1993 before joining ESPN in 1996, where he has been the network’s lead college football analyst for two decades.
Younger Herbstreit is in his second season with the Ohio State football program and is a little tight.
