Kevin Costner, 69, looks sharp in black suit as he attends Chopard Trophy dinner at Cannes… following death of Yellowstone co-star Dabney Coleman

As he prepares to debut his next great American Western, Kevin Costner enjoys a night out in France.

The 69-year-old Academy Award winner looked sharp in a classic black suit as he stepped out for the Chopard Trophy dinner at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on Friday, ahead of the premiere of Horizon: An American Saga.

He wore the suit over a white shirt, which he wore without a tie, just a white pocket square.

Costner completed the look with a black watch and black wayfarer sunglasses with red lenses.

The Yellowstone alum posed on the red carpet with Chopard president Caroline Scheufele, who turned heads in a strapless red ensemble with giant pink flowers on the chest.

His red carpet outing came a day after Costner’s on-screen father Dabney Coleman, in Yellowstone, died at the age of 92.

Coleman appeared in the season 2 finale as John Dutton Sr. in the last moments of his life.

The show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, told Deadline about the casting: “I had written [the Yellowstone episode] but I think I was preparing a movie in New Mexico and I think [Dabney Coleman] reached out and said he would be really interested in doing something.

“I had worked with Dabney many, many years ago, almost 20 years ago, as one of the young pups,” he added.

“He’s from Texas and was such a gifted, giving actor, and it really struck me how good he was and how kind he was to this kid who guest-starred in his deal.”

After a behind-the-scenes feud with 53-year-old Sheridan led Costner to leave the series last year, the actor opened up about the decision this week.

“There was no script,” Costner told Deadline. ‘And then the place imploded. You have read one version [of the show’s drama] for a year and a half.’

He added: “I’ve taken a beating from those damn boys and I often know where it comes from. I just chose not to comment on that.

“But if you know me well enough, I have made Yellowstone the number one priority, and to insinuate otherwise would be wrong,” Costner said.
