EXCLUSIVE: “I look forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life.” Kesha and Dr. Luke FINALLY reach a settlement in years of battle against sexual assault and libel – a month before the case is due to go to court
Kesha and music producer Dr. Luke have finally reached a settlement in their years-long defamation lawsuit – a month before the case could go to court.
The two sides agreed to issue a joint statement on the resolution on Thursday in an Instagram post shared by the singer.
“Only God knows what happened that night. As I’ve always said, I can’t tell everything that happened,” 36-year-old Kesha wrote.
“I look forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life and starting a new one. I wish all parties involved nothing but peace.’
Kesha and music producer Dr. Luke have finally settled their year-long defamation lawsuit – a month before the case could go to trial
The statement was followed by a message from Dr. Luke stating, “While I appreciate Kesha acknowledging once again that she can’t tell what happened that night in 2005. I’m absolutely sure nothing happened.
“I have never drugged or assaulted her and would never do that to anyone. For the sake of my family, I fought vigorously for nearly 10 years to clear my name. It’s time for me to put this difficult matter behind me and move on with my life. I wish Kesha well.’
The development comes a week after a New York Court of Appeals ruling ruled that Dr. Luke, real name Lukasz Gottwald, was considered a “restricted public figure” in the case.
The two have been embroiled in a years-long lawsuit since Kesha alleged in 2014 that the producer had sexually assaulted her.
The legal battle began in October of that year when Kesha Dr. Luke sued for sexual assault and assault, claiming his abusive behavior led to him developing an eating disorder.
The singer claimed that Dr. Luke drugged and raped her in 2005, and in 2016 she also publicly accused him of raping singer Katy Perry.
Dr. Luke immediately fired back with a libel lawsuit of his own, claiming that Kesha defamed him with her false claims, when she said in a text message to Lady Gaga that Dr. Luke had raped Katy Perry.
Perry denied that Dr. Luke raped her in a statement and the judge ruled that Kesha had slandered her former producer.
The judge also ruled that Kesha Dr. Luke must pay $373,000 in interest for her late payment to him of more than $1.3 million in royalties.
