Keith Urban put his family first this Christmas when he chose to tour Australia rather than film the next season of The Voice.
The 54-year-old country singer left the singing show to begin the Down Under leg of The Speed Of Now World Tour, based on the title album he released in 2020.
He told The Daily Telegraph on Friday, he tried to balance his schedule with wife Nicole Kidman so they could take their kids home with their grandparents and extended family for the holidays.

“My mom just turned 80 and Nic’s mom, who knows how many Christmases we’ll ever have with anyone, but especially with our moms, I really cherish that opportunity to spend Chrissy with them and our family in Aus,” he said.
“Having the kids there is great, but so is the extended family, because we don’t have any family in Nashville, so it’s incredible to have all the cousins and aunts and uncles and everyone, it’s just great.”
Keith had originally planned the tour for 2020 but had to postpone it due to the COVID pandemic.

He is currently in the US leg, which will end on November 4, with shows in Kentucky and Nashville this week.
The singer will begin his tour in Australia on December 1 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Center.
“It’s just been a blast of a year. This year already feels like two years in one, probably just for how much we’ve toured and the fact that the contrast was a year and a half of a very slow, dormant touring period and then suddenly everything was wide open,” he said.

Keith will play two shows at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on December 5 and 6, finishing in Melbourne on December 17.
Birds of Tokyo will take the stage with him on December 10 along with GRAACE and Dallas Woods in Deniliquin.
He said he has more music planned for 2023 and will be too busy to return to The Voice alongside coaches Rita Ora, Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy.

It’s not the first time Keith has left The Voice – and he reportedly regretted the decision to quit in 2012.
Dreaming of making it big in Hollywood, the musician left The Voice Australia after one season to star as a judge on American Idol from 2012 to 2016.
The move backfired after he was rejected for the 2018 reboot and forced to return to The Voice regretfully.
