One of the first controversies that rocked the singer this season was that she was slammed for “mom-shaming” 25-year-old contestant Sara Beth Liebe, who eventually quit the show
Katy also faced outrage when she told two struggling singers, Carina DeAngelo, 25, and Nutsa Buzaladze, 25, that their performance was “underwhelming.”
“She started it thinking she would nurture young talent. She didn’t want her good intentions to be misinterpreted.
“She has accomplished so much in her career and is now seen as a nasty reality show judge.
“Katy had wanted to leave for a while, but this season was way too much for her.”
While Katy has received criticism in recent seasons, Season 21 has been the hardest for her to maintain fan approval. At the start of the season, she was accused of “mom-shaming” 25-year-old Sara Beth Liebe by telling the young mother of three that she had “laid too much on the table.”
Another wave of backlash came during Hollywood Week when Katy told struggling hopefuls Carina DeAngelo, 25, and Nutsa Buzaladze, 25, that their performance was “underwhelming” — adding that their “energy was broken.”
In the aftermath of both incidents, Katy took a hit on social media – and that criticism continued to haunt her in the weeks that followed, with several fans clamoring for her to be ‘replaced’, even dragging her into the ‘rigging’ line that burst. loose when this year’s winner, Iam Tongi, was crowned.

Now, the DailyMail.com insider says, she’s decided enough is enough and is ready to call it quits — walking away from a reported $25 million per season paycheck.
However, the source insisted that money doesn’t matter for the chart — and that no pay check will ever be worth the damage it says the show is doing to its “legacy.”
‘[Katy’s decision to quit] is not a money issue,” the insider shared. “It’s starting to become more of a legacy issue for her. She doesn’t want her career to be defined by a talent show where she’s not even performing.’
Spokespersons for Katy and American Idol did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
