Katie Holmes goes incognito in a jean jacket and navy cap as she rides the New York City subway for her performance in The Wanderers

Katie Holmes went undercover in New York City on Sunday when she rode the subway in a jean jacket and navy blue cap.

The 44-year-old Dawson’s Creek alumna prefers the cap for low profile, as she recently wore the same cap to hide her wet hair this week.

Holmes paired her jean jacket with a simple dark blue dress and rocked a pair of black flats.

The star slipped into the subway and boarded her train, keeping the brim of her cap down as she selected a seat and checked her phone.

Katie was on her way to a matinee performance of her Off-Broadway play The Wanderers, which opened on February 17 at the Roundabout Theatre.

In The Wanderers, Katie plays a movie star whose email correspondence with a novelist ends up taking time away from the man’s wife and family.

Charles Isherwood of the Wall Street Journal called the play “perfectly cast” and said that Holmes “imbues the character with a droll intelligence and pangs of self-deprecation and humor.”

During a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan on TuesdayKatie told the talk show hosts how she and the other cast members prepare for their nightly performance.

“We all hung out in the boys’ locker room from 6:15 until seven,” he said. “We just talk about our days and relax. We just communicate with each other.

“Sometimes we have a dance party,” Katie continued, “and just before, after we all get ready and when places are called, we stand in a circle and look at each other and breathe, and I always breathe too soon.” Because I get too excited.

Now that the cast have been doing the show for several weeks now, some of the nerves are gone and they feel more comfortable not only on stage, but behind the scenes.

“Now, we’re high fives and little things here and there,” he revealed. ‘It’s really fun. I feel very lucky. It is such a wonderful and talented group of actors that it is a pleasure to go every day.”

The First Daughter star’s latest subway ride comes after a busy few weeks promoting his new film Rare Objects, which is out in theaters and on demand on April 14.
