The son of Katharine McPhee and David Foster follows in the musical footsteps of his parents.
The American Idol star, 39, and the Canadian producer, 74, had a show in Washington DC on Sunday, where their three-year-old son Rennie David made his drumming debut.
The doting mum shared a clip of the moment on her Instagram, writing: ‘We had a VERY special guest on stage for the first time #ProudMom.’
In the clip, the toddler can be seen playing the drums with headphones on as his famous dad plays the piano and Katharine watches from the edge of the stage.
The star later clarified that it was not Rennie’s drumming that was heard during the show, and that he simply joined in while drummer John JR Robinson played.

“By the way…I hope people realize that JR – the legend – @johnjrrobinson1 – is our great drummer drumming and Rennie is just copying to the best of his ability without a microphone – and it was cute to see his first stage debut.”
Katharine’s 935,000 followers responded to her comments, expressing their awe at the little one’s impressive skills.
Nicole Scherzinger wrote: ‘Omg I can’t even!!!!!!! A child prodigy!!!’
“The future has arrived,” added musician Michael Bublé.
‘What a future this little one has ahead of her!! Awesome!!’ someone else chimed in.
Others continued to marvel at Rennie’s musical skills at such a young age, writing: ‘How cute! This is absolutely amazing! He just had a birthday….just turned 3!!! Unbelievable.’
Although the drumming in McPhee’s new video wasn’t Rennie’s, the toddler has shown off his drumming skills on both her and David’s Instagram accounts in the past.
In a video posted to Foster’s account on January 5, Rennie was seen practicing on his own drum kit as Foster nodded along, impressed by what he heard.

McPhee and Foster married in June 2019 and welcomed their son in February 2021.
Last year, McPhee revealed that she and David sometimes disagree when it comes to disciplining their son.
“I want to start disciplining (Rennie) and Kat doesn’t really want to do that,” Foster said People.
Meanwhile, the singer clarified: ‘No, that’s not true. I just want to discipline in my own way.”
She later commented, “It’s just a different approach. I think his era of parenting is different than mine.”
McPhee explained, “There’s a more old-fashioned way of discipline, involving timeouts and things like that.
‘My view is that you can have more conscious parenting, rather than just assuming that a two- or three-year-old can have time alone to think about what he or she has done badly.’

Rennie was born in February 2021, joining Foster’s five adult children
The singer-songwriter added, “I think the newer approach to parenting is understanding that with a child, there’s only so much he or she can understand intellectually.
‘If you say, ‘That was really bad, that was really bad,’ you get a feeling of shame. I think discipline is something that happens over time.”
By comparison, she said of her husband, whom she married in 2019, “David is more results-oriented. He says, “He can’t just walk by and whack people.”
‘Of course not. But he’s two and a half and he’s learning those things,” she added.
It comes after Foster’s daughter, Amy S. Foster, defended him after an Instagram user criticized his parenting last month.
The 50-year-old songwriter refuted claims her father abandoned his older children for his son Rennie, insisting their relationship is “amazing.”
“We love our dad,” she said in response to a social media user’s comment on the music producer’s Instagram post of Rennie playing drums on Michael Jackson’s Rock With You.
“Our dad loves us and we love how our dad is with Rennie,” she continued of their half-sister – David’s only son and only child with current wife Katharine.

Amy is one of David’s five daughters, who also include: Allison Jones Foster, 53; Sarah Foster, 42; Erin Foster, 41; and Jordan Foster, 37.
Amy is David’s only child whom he shares with his first wife and Skylark bandmate, BJ Cook, 81.
He shares Sara, Erin and Jordan with his second wife, actress Rebecca Dyer.
He was also married to songwriter and former actress Linda Thompson from 1991 to 2005 and to model and reality star Yolanda Hadid from 2011 to 2017 before tying the knot with McPhee in 2019.
