- Lake bought her son a 12-gauge after buying her daughter a handgun
Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake kept up a family tradition by buying her 19-year-old son a 12-gauge shotgun after giving his older sister a handgun this spring.
Lake, a gun enthusiast who has urged her supporters to strap on a Glock by 2024, bought the firearm for her son Leo, just in time for dove season that begins in September in her coveted state.
“It is a blessing to this mother that my son has developed a love for hunting. He is a great shot with Jeff’s shotgun, but we have decided it is time for him to have one to call his own,” she told DailyMail.com, referring to her husband Jeff Halperin.
“As a United States Senator, I will do everything in my power to preserve and protect our sacred Second Amendment so that every American, including Leo, can not only enjoy a day of hunting, but can also protect themselves from anyone who would jeopardize their safety,” she added.
Lake and her husband bought the rifle at the Casa Grande Gun Show, where Lake also browsed tables of handguns and wielded an axe.
This spring, she bought her daughter Ruby a 9mm Sig Sauer P365-XL Comp pistol when she turned 21. She said her “little girl is growing up.”

That was the same month that Lake urged her supporters to “strap on the Glock” for a year in 2024, which she predicted would be “crazy” and “intense.”
“The next six months are going to be intense,” she told a crowd in Lake Havasu City.
“We’re going to buckle up. We’re going to put on our helmets — or your Kari Lake hat. We’re going to put on the armor of God. And maybe strap a Glock to the side of us, just in case.”

Leo, 19, was a “great shot” with his father Jeff’s hunting rifle and now has one of his own, Lake said.

“You can put one heater and one in the back, or one in the front, whatever you want,” she said.
Lake, a former broadcaster who lost her bid for governor in 2022, is narrowly trailing Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego in the polls for the Arizona Senate race.
They are vying for the seat being vacated by Democrat and now independent Kyrsten Sinema.
