Vice President Kamala Harris responded to a series of celebrity endorsements during the 2024 presidential election, including a coveted endorsement from megastar Taylor Swift.
The Democratic presidential candidate was interviewed by radio host Stephanie “Chiquibaby” Himonidis, where she discussed Swift and other stars’ support in the 2024 race.
Himonidis mentioned Swift by name, as well as George Lopez and Eva Longoria, before asking Harris what he thought about the Mexican band ending its collaboration with Nicky Jam, who recently supported Trump.
Harris first responded that she is “very grateful” to all the artists who understood the stakes of the election and supported her candidacy.
“I feel very honored by their support,” the vice president said.
Kamala Harris gets a chance to weigh in on celebrity endorsements, including Taylor Swift, saying she’s ‘honored by their support’
Harris added that she is grateful that they are making their voices heard.
Just hours after the radio interview aired, another major singer announced her support for Harris. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas revealed their support on X.
Harris’ comments on The Chiquibaby Show mark the first time the vice president has spoken out directly about celebrity endorsements, though she did not mention Swift or other celebrities by name.
This comes after her campaign celebrated the superstar who is supporting the Democratic candidate.
“I will be a president for all Americans,” Harris said. “I believe there is no place for hatred and division in this country.”
She reiterated her call that it is time to leave the last decade, the divisions and the extremism, behind us.
“There is too much at stake in this election,” Harris said.
Donald Trump’s post on Truth Social on Sunday, just days after Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president
It comes just days after Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday: ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!’
Shortly after Tuesday night’s debate, Swift posted on Instagram that she would be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 election.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend. I think she’s a determined, talented leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” Swift wrote.
She also praised Harris for choosing Walz as her running mate, praising him “who has spent decades advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF and women’s right to their own bodies.”
She said she had done her research and made her choice and encouraged her legions of supporters to do their own research. She also shared a link for people to register to vote.
Swift captioned the post, “Childless Cat Lady,” in a dig at Trump’s running mate JD Vance.
More than 400,000 people followed the link on her Instagram, which within 24 hours provided information on how to register to vote.
While Harris has not yet indicated her support for Swift during the campaign, her running mate Tim Walz has praised her “fellow cat owner” Swift several times on the street since the endorsement.
He also recently called Trump “the shortest man who ever lived,” referencing a Swift song.
Harris, surprisingly, did not directly address the Mana-Nicky Jam controversy or the reggaeton star who supports Trump during the recorded radio interview on Tuesday.
Nicky Jam speaks with former President Donald Trump during his rally in Las Vegas on September 13. The former president mislabeled the Latin singer and said “she’s hot” during his rally
The Mexican rock band ended its partnership with Jam after he publicly supported Trump in Las Vegas over the weekend. In a statement, they said the band “does not work with racists.”
Harris’ campaign did not immediately respond to the endorsement, but did point out on social media that the former president had misgendered the Latin singer and called her “hot.”
Jam initially appeared to downplay the gaffe on Instagram, but he later deleted the post.
