The official synopsis reads: ‘France in 1885. Eugénie worked as a chef for the famous restaurant owner Dodin for twenty years. She is considered excellent in her field. Because Eugénie and Dodin spent a lot of time together in the kitchen over the years, feelings arose between them.’

‘Their shared love of food has created unique, delicious and exquisite dishes that are second to none and attract many guests from all over the world. However, the freedom-loving Eugénie never wanted to marry Dodin’.

‘Then Dodin decided to cook for his loved one for the first time’.

Last year, Juliette pulled no punches when it came to legendary directors Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.

She revealed that she had turned down three opportunities to work with the 75-year-old Spielberg in an interview published by Variety.

When talking about rejecting the famous filmmaker, she compared him to another Scorsese filmmaker, 79, and called them “men’s directors.”

She was asked three times if she had really rejected Spielberg, to which she replied, “I don’t really remember, but Steven reminded me!” The first time was for Indiana Jones 3, because I did The Lovers On The Bridge with Leos Carax.

‘The second time I was pregnant for Schindler’s List, and for the dinosaurs (Jurassic Park) I had already committed to Three Colors: Blue (the Krzysztof Kieslowski film).

Binoche was asked if she would work with Spielberg or Scorsese in the future.

The Chocolat actress remained honest and replied: ‘Of course I would! Even though I find their approach to cinema very commercial, they have a fantastic technique that they completely own, and there are storytellers. But their films lack women.’

Binoche was asked if there are more opportunities for female filmmakers today.

The Oscar winner replied: ‘There are more and more female directors in Europe, less so in the US. It’s not there yet, but they are gaining ground. I just played a truck driver in Anna Gutto’s film Paradise Highway and initially they didn’t want her to direct her script, but I went along because I like adventure.

“We filmed in Mississippi and it wasn’t a piece of cake because it was over 100 degrees, but I had to learn how to drive a truck!”.
