Pep Guardiola led his side to a famous treble this season, but previously joked that he has ‘failed’
Guardiola’s ‘idol’ is Julia Roberts and he said he was disappointed when she visited Man United
Speaking after City’s 7-0 win over RB Leipzig in March, the Spaniard bizarrely insisted he will always be a failure thanks to Roberts.
“I’m a failure in the Champions League,” said Guardiola. “If I win the Champions League three times in a row, I’m a failure.
“I have three idols in my life. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Julia Roberts. These are my three idols.
“Julia Roberts came to Manchester years ago – not in the 90s when Sir Alex (Ferguson) won titles and titles and titles. She came in the period when we were better than United, in these four or five years, right?’
The now three-time winner continued to reveal that he would remain disappointed even if he won the Champions League this season, which his side subsequently did.
“Even if I win the Champions League, it won’t compare to the disappointment I had,” he repeated.
But now Roberts has congratulated her biggest fan on his performance at Man City, perhaps softening the blow for Guardiola.
