Speaking to The Sun before Jonnie’s death, the TV star praised his wife for her incredible support during his difficult diagnosis.
Jess, who mainly stays out of the spotlight, said at the time: ‘He couldn’t stop apologizing. He kept saying ‘sorry’ over and over and I kept saying it wasn’t his fault.”
While discussing whether she could consider finding love again, she added: “I can figure out what support I need and things like that, but when it comes to me, my life is all about boys.
‘That’s enough for me. That’s where my thinking stops. It scares me that I will suddenly find myself alone in a house, the only adult with three young boys. The prospect of being a single mother and a widow is horrible to think about.”
Jess also explained that she fell in love with Jonnie because she knew he would be a great father and expected him to be her life partner.

“His magical brain that kept fighting until the end has now fallen asleep. He has given me more than I could ever ask for: 8 crazy years of love and adventure and 3 amazing boys.
“I will continue to make you proud, but only now that your love still finds me and guides me for the rest of my life, me and the boys still need you. Jonnie, you were truly the most handsome man I have ever known and I am so sorry for this cruel end.”
‘It really wasn’t fair and you didn’t deserve any of this. You gave so much of your time to others and touched everyone you met, I have never experienced anything like the effect you had on people. I love you so much and am forever proud of you xxx’.

It has been revealed that Jonnie and Jess kept his battle with terminal cancer a secret from his three sons.
Just before Father’s Day 2023, Jonnie revealed his and Jessica’s decision not to tell his young children that he was dying.
He reasoned that the information would be too complex for his young children to process and understand.
Jonnie hoped that if he didn’t make his children wiser, it would mean the family could create more happy memories together.
Jonnie told me Hello! at the time: ‘I keep getting asked, ‘Are you going to tell them?’ but tell them what?
‘It would be terrible news if they had to turn their heads. And it would confuse Rex immensely; he’s having a day that’s shocking enough. Let’s bury our heads in the sand for as long as possible.’
