The Rosanne star started his journey in 2007 when he quit drinking, but his trainer then took him to a new level of weight loss and fitness.

According to his trainer, he introduced the star to a “Mediterranean-style eating plan” that focuses on fish, nuts, olive oil, fruits and vegetables.

John also exercises six days a week, taking 10,000 to 12,000 steps daily and using an elliptical bike and treadmill.

The actor has always been open about his love of food, telling People, “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what you’re going to eat next.”

In 2016, John told Howard Stern, “I took it easy. I just wanted to change my lifestyle. He explained that his new way of living is “an ongoing process for the rest of my life.”

The star revealed that he used to look in the mirror every day and think, “I have to deal with this for the rest of the day, do I have to deal with this asshole?”

The following year, he told ABC about his weight loss, “I used to take three months off, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a six-pack or whatever and just fall back into my old habits.”

However, he decided that this time he would be really disciplined and do things differently.

“This time I wanted to take it easy. Move, exercise. I’m getting to an age where I can’t afford to sit still.’

As part of his lifestyle overhaul, the actor gave up alcohol, telling AARP in 2018, “It was really just portion control, and I don’t need it. I just stuffed everything in my mouth.’

Speaking about his alcohol addiction, John told Rolling Stone magazine, “All that anger was fueled by fear, and the drinking was because it was fun.

“But I was probably born an alcoholic. But most of the anger is gone. When I’m not watching the news, I’m cool.”
